Car seat laws for my state?

My neighbor told me my daughter should still be in a booster seat but her doctor said she is more than big enough for a regular seat belt. She is 7 and weighs 58 pounds and is really tall…not sure exactly how tall she is now. She is also going on vacation with my parents and I want to make sure they have her booster seat if it is required.

Where can I find out the exact laws for FL and NH? Thanks!

Florida law says children under the age of 5 must be retrained in a booster seat.

New Hampshire law says children under the age of 6 years or 55 inches tall must be restrained in a booster seat.

Of course, it is a good idea to keep them in a booster seat until 80 pounds. Most seats now have that weight limit.

New car seat laws for children in the UK…?

How much does it annoy you when you see a child sitting in a car, with no seat belt, no car seat and the parent who seems not to care?

It rips my knitting!!!

It really bugs me, we have an infant/junior school at the end of our street and you should see the cars coming on here with kids stood up on cars seats and hanging out the sunroof, these people have no respect for their children let alone the law, so much for new child seat laws hey.

pennsylvania car seat laws?

does anyone know the laws in pa regarding infant carseats? are they required to be rearfacing? do they have to be in the back seat? i’d like real laws please, not just opinions! thanks!

are you talking about carrier carseats where the base stays in the car? Those are rear facing ONLY. A car seat must be in the back seat unless the front is the only seat (like a truck without a cab) or there is not a full seat in the back (such as only having "jump" seats). Then there are convertible seats which can be used rear- and forward-facing. Infants cannot be forward facing until they are 1 year AND 20 pounds. This is the law in most states. Although some only say that a child must be properly restrained in their seat. Since ALL seats on the market cannot be used forward facing until baby is 1 year and 20 pounds, if you turn your child forward facing before that you are breaking the law since you are not using the seat properly.

Affordable convertible car seats?

So yes it would be nice to get a Britax but our budget will not allow for this right now. So what would be a more affordable option but still a very safe car seat? I would like one that rear faces too and goes up to 40 or 65 lbs. I was looking at the Graco comfort sport but I am just not sure and would like some input here. I should add she is 9 months and getting close to growing out of her infant seat.Thanks.
I would say my budget is about $150. I have an older car that does not have tethers and it is also a 2 door so I need something that won’t be too big. I mean if the Britax is the best we could get it and just cutt back on other things for the month.

I have an Alpha Omega (aka costco aka Eddie Bauer) and an Evenflo Triumph Advance. I figured the Alpha Omega was pretty good until I got the Evenflo Triumph Advance -its a million times better and generally about 30% cheaper.

With the Alpha Omega the shoulder straps run in a loop under the baby’s butt, which means if you get too much on one shoulder and not enough on the other you basically have to take the baby out of the seat to fix it-and it happens all the time. You can’t reach the harness tightness adjuster on the Alpha Omega with the seat rear-facing as its between the baby’s feet and ends up buried in the car’s seat.

The Evenflo Triumph Advance the harness is easy to loosen and tigthen so you actually get the proper fit each time -you use a knob off to the side (to loosen you have to push this sort of tab on a ring, it works very easily as long as you release the tension first by unbuckling the straps -learned that the hard way). The shoulder strap has "infinite adjust". The upside is its easy to adjust, the downside is its easy to adjust.

The Sunshine Radian 65 is an excellent seat, particularly if you need one that’s "portable" (its heavy because its metal but it folds flat) or fit three across (its one of the narrowest seats on the market but has one of the widest "seat space" because its metal. So it takes up less room but fits larger kids. Upgrading to the 80 (65 and 80 are the weight limits, is generally not worth it)

I also hear good things about the Learning Curve "True Fit"

Sparco seats on a Jeep?

I need to replace the front seats on my 03 Jeep Liberty and want Sparco or Recaro seats will they fit in my car?

You can definitely replace your stock Jeep Liberty Seats with Sparco or Recaro seats. However, since neither the Sparco or Recaro seats will bolt up directly to your stock seat brackets, you will have to buy or build a custom bracket. Sparco doesn’t list a bracket for the Liberty but I’ve found that they often can build brackets for an unlisted application but they are special order and take approximately 6 weeks to complete. Building brackets is out of the question unless you have access to metal, a cutting torch, and a welder.

You may want to consider the Corbeau brand. This is a US company that has been making big waves in the performance seating business, and is getting to be the seat of choice for many Jeep drivers. What’s even better is that they stock a bracket specifically for the Liberty. Corbeau seat styles range from the sleek, fast-looking seats that made Sparco famous to suspension seats built specifically with the Jeep owner in mind.

Should seat belts and air bags be required?

Most states require that seat belts be worn. By federal law, all new cars mush have air bags. Both seat belts and air bags use physics principles to save lives.
When a moving car stops quickly, inertia tends to keep the passengers moving forward. Seat belts apply a force that tries to counteract this forward motion, hopefully preventing a serious injury.
Following a front-end-collision, an air bag fills the space between the passenger and the dashboard the air bag allow the passenger’s head and upper body to decelerate ore slowly, helping tp prevent injury.
For some people, seat belts are inconvenient or uncomfortable. They feel seat belt laws interfere with their freedom of choice. Theses people believe that if they drive safely, seat belts are unnecessary.
While air bags increase the cost of new cars, many consumers have been happy to absorb the additional cost in the name of safety.
Does the risk of personal injury outweigh the inconvenience of using seat belts and the cost increase of air bags?
What is your position on the use of seat belts and air bags??

I think seat belts and air bags should be required because they have proven to save countless lives. Now it is true that injuries can be a result of an airbag being deployed. However the benefits far outweigh the injuries that can be sustained. Here is proof of my argument.

*NHTSA estimates that airbags have saved almost 20,000 lives.

*NHTSA statistics show that newer cars and trucks have the best airbag records. No deaths were reported from the 2002 and 2003 model years. One death was reported from the 2004 model year.

*Two children died in the U.S. last year as a result of injuries caused by airbags. No adults were killed according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). That is an improvement over previous years.

*Approximately 35,000 people die in motor vehicle crashes each year. About 50 percent (17,000) of these people could be saved if they wore their safety belts.

*Safety belt use is one of the best defenses against the unpredictable actions of the drunk driver.

*Today over 25 countries around the world have some type of mandatory safety belt law. Results of these laws were measured; usage rate went from 20-25 percent before passage to 60-90 percent after passage.

*Of every 100 children who die in motor vehicle crashes at least 80 would survive if they were properly secured in an approved child safety seat or safety belts.

VOTE ERIN PIERSON AT-LARGE FOR CITY COUNCIL

Dear Citizen of Lincoln:

My name is Erin Pierson and I am an official candidate for the City Council of Lincoln Nebraska. I’m currently running for an At-large seat. I am an educated hard working citizen with strong conservative values who has chosen to run for city council to represent the best interests of all the citizens of Lincoln. I am committed to stand up against any and all special interests that are not in the best interests of our citizens and for the welfare of our great city.

I strongly support:

- Strong schools for educating our children, who after all are our future

- Safe streets so our citizens always feel safe wherever they go in the city without fear

- Good roads which are kept in good repair with no potholes to damage our cars and trucks

- Eliminating unnecessary, wasteful, and redundant programs to keep our taxes low thus making Lincoln an affordable city for all our citizens especially those who are struggling in this difficult economic climate

- Make Lincoln through low taxes and the efficient delivery of government services an attractive place for businesses to grow and to relocate here to create new high paying jobs for our citizens as well as increase our tax base for the city

- Opposing special interest groups whose agendas are not in the interests of all of the citizens of our great city

- Fighting for the individual rights of each and every citizen

Like you I am just a regular person who is tired of politics as usual. I have decided to run instead of simply complaining about how our government is no longer responsive to the needs of the average citizen. I want to be your voice in city hall. I am asking for your vote and give you my word that I will stand up and fight for you as your voice on the city council.

If I am privileged enough to earn your vote and be elected to the council I will always remember where I came from and will always remember the reason that the citizens of Lincoln voted me into office.

Please know I have no political connections, nor do I have special interest monies to fund my campaign. I am literally running my campaign on a shoe-string budget, These flyers are all I have in addition to my energy in knocking on every citizen’s door I am able to get to, to ask for your vote.

I truly hope you will entrust me with your vote so we can make Lincoln a model of efficient and effective city government that truly serves all its citizens and not just those with money and influence.

I’m Erin Pierson allow me to earn your vote for city council 2009.

I Proudly received the “Lincoln Neighborhood Alliance’s” (LNA) lowest grade of all 11 candidates running for City Council. LNA stands for substantial new city spending and higher taxes, fees, and regulations on our citizens and local businesses which I staunchly oppose. See the complete survey posted online

Sounds like your typical political stump speech to me (and I have heard a lot of em being politically active myself).

To paraphrase that speech, I am for all the good things that everyone is for but that cost money to get. However, I am opposed to spending money and want to cut taxes because everybody wants something for nothing. I am not going to tell you any specific proposals on how we achieve those goals, just trust me to do the right thing.

It’s a good speech in that it sounds attractive without connecting the candidate to any specific proposal that might upset voters. Sometimes, the person running on that platform actually has a workable plan. Sometimes, the person running on that platform is an idiot who shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near power.

Does any one know the laws in regards to a child car seat in a semi-truck?

We are planning a family trip with my husband, who drives a semi for a living. We are wondering if a child has to be restrained in a car seat at all times in a semi, or if they can sit in the bunk/bed with and adult with out a car seat. We have seen children in other semis that are not buckled, but we are not sure if is legal. We don’t wish to break any laws or put our son in any danger. We would really appreciate any feed back or actual references to this. Thank you.

P.S.-Our son is 14 months old and weighs approx. 30 lbs.

yep, seat for safety but thats a long ride in a seat. maybe if you get pulled in for inspection pop him in real quick .

Asking this again…any reviews on the Recaro Como Convertible car seat?

I ordered one off ebay but it hasn’t come yet. Any owners of this seat can you tell me what your experience has been? I have considered the Britax seats but money is a factor so we wanted to try out the Recaro seats for their safety rating as well as better price….any input here?

Thanks!
my daughter is 23 pounds

We love our Como : ) And so doesn’t our daughter. She is almost 1, and is probably around 20lbs, so she is very petite. We have it installed rear-facing, and will continue RF for as long as possible. She seems to like the seat a lot!

When we first got it, the SIP head wings were a little difficult to get positioned without the straps being above her shoulders. I finally got it to fit well after messing with it for a while.

Just make sure before you install it you put your little one in the seat and adjust the straps and what not. I hope you have her rear-facing still! Good luck!

Toyota Highlander w/ 3 car seats?

I am looking to take in a 3rd child about the same age as my son (2) and I am wondering if I will be able to fit 3 car seats safely in the back seat of my 2004 Toyota Highlander? I have tried before, but it was a tight squeeze and luckily the 2 I had were in infant seats, so we were able to place them both in without the car seat bases. Is there a way to fit 3 toddler seats in safely? I was thinking of the third row, but that would be really hard to get a child in and out of that is in a car seat.
Thank you so much. It hadn’t even occured to me to do that! That is a wonderful idea!!!

You can do it – you can remove one of the middle row seats so you have 2 in the 3rd row, and one in the second. That way you can get your kids in and out of the 3rd row easily. My SIL has a Toyota Highlander hybrid and she loves it.
